  • ‘Cross-industry innovation’ i.s.m. Marc Heleven.
  • ‘Innoveren met gebruikers’ i.s.m. Lifetech Valley (zorgsector)

Smart Health Solutions

Date:
Monday, April 18, 2016
Info:

Good health is a precious asset. Evolutions in science, production technologies, IT, life sciences, society etc. enable a smart support of health and health care. At this event, the focus will be on nano-electronics as a powerful tool for the development of smart diagnostics, smart monitoring and active stimulation.

Speakers from industry and research institutions introduce you to the field of smart health, by sharing their experiences and inspiring innovations. They will focus on both the product and its application, and the development phase.

This is the final event arising from the GENEESS project (GEzonder door Nano-Elektronica En Slimme Specialisatie (2013-2016)) in which DSP Valley and IMEC bundled forces to support companies in developing smart health solutions by using micro and nano-electronics.
At the same time, we proudly launch XKET4HEALTH. With XKET4HEALTH, DSP Valley and FlandersBio will nurture an ecosystem in which 2 key enabling technologies – micro- and nano-electronics and life sciences.

Design en engineering trends voor LED-applicaties

Date:
Wednesday, December 2, 2015
Info:

PCB Design and Layout Techniques for Cost-Effective SI, PI and EMC, in 2015

Date:
Wednesday, December 2, 2015 to Thursday, December 3, 2015
Info:

The research group ReMI (Reliability in Mechatronics and ICT) organizes a course on basics and advanced PCB design and layout techniques.

Every two years, on average, every type of semiconductor that is available on the market goes through a die-shrink, which makes their emissions and immunity worse. This applies to older device types, like 74-series TTL and HCMOS, as well as to the latest microprocessors and memories, so designing with the same old parts does not protect us from this problem.
So PCB technology must continually advance, to design PCBs in a way that doesn’t create problems for Signal Integrity (SI), Power Integrity (PI) and ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
Advanced PCB EMC techniques are generally needed when resonances in PCB structures are excited by the frequencies present in the analogue, digital or power supply current waveforms.

After the appropriate choice of semiconductors (or designing your own ASICs), the most cost-effective SI, PI and EMC techniques are those applied at the PCB level.
This course provides a practical grounding in PCB EMC design and layout techniques that have been proven over many years in real life to help companies quickly improve their commercial and financial performance by:

  • Bringing products to market more quickly
  • Improving functional performance
  • Reducing overall unit manufacturing costs
  • Easily complying with legal EMC requirements
  • Reducing warranty costs and improving customer perception of the brand
  • Reducing financial risks
  • Improving Return On Investment

Electromagnetic Compatibility: Mysteries unraveled

Date:
Wednesday, October 7, 2015 to Wednesday, October 28, 2015
Info:

The research group ReMI (Reliability in Mechatronics and ICT) organizes a course on the basics of electromagnetic compatibility.

Solving Electromagnetic compatibility problems is still seen as “black magic” by engineers involved in the design process of electronic products.

Nevertheless, many problems can be avoided and/or solved when a couple of basic principles are understood and used.

In this course Prof. Davy Pissoort teaches engineers who are regularly confronted to EMC problems how to use these basic principles and this without any complex mathematics nor theories. The emphasis of this course is on the practical application of these basic principles.
